AUC Woodruff Library Launches New Institutional Repository: RADAR

ATLANTA (August 2, 2019) — The Atlanta University Center (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library has officially launched its new institutional repository, RADAR, which stands for Repository of AUC Digital collections, Archives and Research. This digital warehouse will store and provide access to all of the Library’s online collections, including archival material, theses and dissertations, faculty scholarship and audio and video.

Created to enhance the educational experience of AUC students and faculty,  RADAR is far more advanced than the Library’s previous repository and improves the research process by making it more streamlined and extensive.

RADAR, which can be accessed by visiting radar.auctr.edu, also boasts a user-friendly interface, responsive design and keyword searching across the repository. In addition, users are able to browse by AUC institution, decade or geographic location. Other benefits include:

–Search term highlighting
–Alternative metrics provided for scholarly and faculty publications (e.g. social media shares, tweets and mentions)
–Optimized for Google searching
–Open access journal hosting and support
–Expanded digital preservation capabilities
–Newest uploaded content automatically featured on homepage
–Embedded viewing of audio and video files

“RADAR was designed to improve access to the rich archival collections and scholarly works that are housed in the AUC Woodruff Library’s digital repository,” said Loretta Parham, CEO and Library Director. “Scholars worldwide are now able to efficiently explore these materials, of which many are primary resources that will enrich teaching and learning within the Atlanta University Center and beyond.”

This service is managed by the Digital Services Department of the AUC Woodruff Library. Digitized and born-digital archival collections, research, and scholarly output included in the repository has been selected and deposited by the students and faculty of the Library’s member institutions, Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College and Spelman College, and the librarians and archivists of the AUC Woodruff Library.

RADAR is powered by Islandora, open source repository software.
