ATLANTA (September 13, 2019) — The Atlanta University Center (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library was awarded a $15,000 grant to launch the Woodi Health Hub—a project that will improve health information literacy among AUC students, faculty and staff.

The Woodi Health Hub—a health information kiosk that will be located on the main level of the Library—is an All of Us Community Engagement project funded by the Network of National Libraries of Medicine Southeastern Atlantic (NNLM SEA) Region for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The kiosk will provide access to both print and digital health literature, personal health assessment surveys and contact information for health agencies. Library staff who received health information resources training will partner with AUC faculty to develop and deliver health information literacy training modules to targeted groups of students.

The kick-off event, an AUC Health Information Fair, was held on September 12 featuring health information tables, health and wellness games and healthy snack tasting.

The Library also plans to host monthly healthy cooking demonstrations to promote healthy eating habits and other collaborative events featuring local health professionals who will share information about health conditions, wellness strategies and real-life experiences to benefit those students interested in health-related fields.

A Woodi Health Hub Field Day event on the Library’s Greenscape is planned for the spring semester to encourage students to become more active while having fun. In addition, student advocates will be recruited to plan and implement project initiatives. Interested AUC faculty can request health information resources sessions for their classes.
